Hand Gesture based Automation of Electric Wheel Chair

Product Details

Number of people with disabilities increases day by day especially due to health impairments and accidents. Many disable people have problems to use a conventional wheel chair. People suffering from motor deficits, disorientation, amnesia, or cognitive deficits, are dependent upon others to push them, so often feel powerless and out of control. Intelligent or smart wheel chair is the solution to provide these people effective ways to compensate for their specific impairments. Thus, we are proposing a “Hand Gesture based EWC” to replace the conventional Electric Wheel Chair (EWC) by an automated EWC to provide easy movement & control of EWC to the patients. The automated EWC is controlled through hand gesture in order to move forward & backward, turn left and right and even pause/stop the movement etc. Also, it stops its movement immediately by detecting the obstacles. On the Transmitting side (Human hand), for detection of Hand Movement ADXL 345 accelerometer is used, attached to the gloves. It detects the orientation of human hand and send data to Arduino. Arduino further transmits the sensor data to the vehicle through RF-Module. Arduino device is used due to its reliability and user-friendly architecture. On the Receiving side, the Arduino will receive messages from human hand through RF-Module. Accordingly, it will control the movement of EWC through DC motors and a LCD display is used for indication to the paralyzed person.
